Tips and Tricks
This is my creation for holding on to sword blades while I polish them. It works pretty good on just about any blade really, as long as not too small.

I basically trued up a couple of 2x4's (flatten and smooth) and made an upside down "T" by screwing and gluing together for the foundation. The top of the upside down "T" is to give a clamping surface, making the jig portable.

The blade clamp is two steel plates that are 2"x3"x1/4". The bottom ones slide on the 3/8" rods and the center T bolt pushes down on the lower plate which presses against the blade, clamping it down. There are leather pads on the the surfaces that touch the blade, protecting it from dings and dents.

With this set-up, I can move the blade anywhere, exposing as much as I want during polishing. I'm using the sanding bar technique from Don Fogg's sight to do my foundation polishing and this jig helps out a lot.
